hober
well, you mark (with #) several emails, which may be from different threads/etc., and then you just use the ordinary reply or followup command
#
hober
it formats the in-reply-to and references headers to correctly refer to all of the emails you're replying to

I could see setting it up and only using it occasionally for this purpose. it's like having a sand wedge. :)

sandeepshetty - re: lost art of threading - I think the problems the author refers to bely the larger problem of email/discussion vs. capturing current state and iterating on current state.
#
tantek
that is, it's not that threading is a lost art, it's that threading is both too hard in email, and frankly itself gets you into confusing contexts very quickly, especially for anyone trying to go back to a thread and read it as a series of deltas.
#
tantek
as soon as you feel a need for such deep threading, I think that's an indicator that you should be capturing current state on a wiki, rather than trying to improve email/forums. per: http://microformats.org/wiki/wiki-better-than-email
scor joined the channel
#
pdurbin
I'll check it out but I'm not a huge believer in wikis, though I do like Wikipedia
#
aaronpk
i like how twitter doesn't do any threading whatsoever
#
tantek
pdurbin - wikis are easier to search/discover than email threads. doesn't matter if you're not a big believer in wikis in any absolute sense, email lists/threads/groups are less believable :)
#
tantek
aaronpk - Twitter does one level of threading - or do you not count that as threading?
#
aaronpk
well they show a list of replies to a single tweet, but that isn't really threading since they're all at the same level
#
tantek
I guess I count the replies and the original as a level of threading
#
tantek
even if you connect only two things like that, you are still "threading" them together
#
tantek
e.g. threading POSSE copies :)

#

aaronpk: but i thought the one on your personal repo is the main!?!
#

#

#
pfefferle

#
aaronpk

#
pfefferle

#
aaronpk
heh, enabled issues and now I see it
#
pfefferle
aaronpk: what do you think about a way to disable the content-parsing?
#
pfefferle
if you know what target you want to ping…
andreypopp joined the channel
#
pfefferle
you can only set $sourceBody=false
#
pfefferle
and then it will parse the body
#
pfefferle
you can only fake it by adding $sourceBody="<ignore />"
#
pfefferle
i will add it as issue
#
aaronpk
i see, yea, you're looking for a way to use it to just send the payload
#
aaronpk
it could be a static method on the class since there wouldn't be any state to save
#
pfefferle
or a stricter check $sourceBody= false means no parsing, $sourceBody=true means parsing and $sourceBody="DOM" means parse the var
#
pfefferle
if you change it to static, you also have change all helper functions (_post(), c(), _get())
#
aaronpk
_get() and _post() are no problem being static, and I would just make a new method to avoid making c() static
#
aaronpk
cause you'd have to pass in the webmention URL into the method
#
pfefferle
or we remove the body post from the constructor and add it to the sendSupportedMentions and parse it only if "target" is empty
#
pfefferle
s/post/part
#
Loqi
pfefferle meant to say: or we remove the body part from the constructor and add it to the sendSupportedMentions and parse it only if "target" is empty

pfefferle: you just want a way to make the post request to a URL you specify? Basically sending source=x&target=y as a pingback or webmention? and you know whether you're sending a pingback or a webmention and you know the endpoint?
#
aaronpk
so you don't care about the body at all then
#
pfefferle
i use your script for the spreadly.com implementation
#
aaronpk
ok yea I think I'm going to go the static method route then
#
pfefferle
and there is only one url that a user can share
#
aaronpk
cause the instance really is meant to manage parsing the body and looking for URLs to potentially ping
#
pfefferle
ok, makes sense

what would you expect the return value to be?
#
aaronpk
i'll make it true/false depending on whether it was accepted
#
pfefferle
depends on the check… is the supportsWebmention/Pingback method included or do i have to run it before?
#
aaronpk
you'll only be running one method, sendPingback or sendWebmention
#
aaronpk
passing in endpoint, source and target
#
pfefferle
nice! true or false is ok!

so you open up bbedit and just add a "<li class="h-entry" to the top of the current bim.html file?

#

video wasn't good for me..
#
sandeepshetty_
also what am I seeing here: http://tantek.com/2013/
#
tantek
I'm focusing more on the presentation / interaction side (for readers/viewers) than on my own posting UI (which I have tons of UI designs / brainstorms for)
#
sandeepshetty_
it doesn't look it has the latest posts atleast
#
tantek
it's not - it's returning just the first bim of posts
#
tantek
years are not handled explicitly right now in my date archive views - so it's falling back to showing the first bim instead
#
tantek
which is why those views are not linked as of yet :)
#
tantek
http://tantek.com/2013/1 is a view of the first bim.
#
sandeepshetty_
and what's the difference between http://tantek.com/2013/3.html and http://tantek.com/2013/3 (for exmaple I don't see the next, prev nav in the latter)
#
tantek
whereas http://tantek.com/2013/1.html *is* the bim storage file.
#
sandeepshetty_
ah that answers it.. so you manually add next prev in the bim storage file..
#
tantek
at the start of each bim when I create a new file for that bim
#
sandeepshetty_
and the view just extracts the entries and shows them in a template
#
tantek
right
