aaronpk: the wiki seems to be suffering. Slow page loads, 504s, timeouts. See anything on your end?
#
aaronpk
only on saving a page it looks like
#
aaronpk
i think it's the plugin that tries to go archive hotlinked images
#
aaronpk
timing out on pages that have a lot of images

Gotcha. Thanks for looking.
#
aaronpk
hmm I think I will disable that for now
#
aaronpk
it isn't working the way I want it to anyway
#
aaronpk
ultimately I want the plugin to stash the image away and modify the wiki page source to reference the archived copy
#
Loqi
gives aaronpk the plugin to stash the image away and modify the wiki page source to reference the archived copy
#
aaronpk
which means it will only time out if you add a whole bunch of *new* images to a page at once
#
[shaners]
copy that

#
aaronpk
kylewm: that's the current battery life of my phone!
#
kylewm
lol, why is that there?
#
aaronpk
why not?
#
kylewm
because every time someone on the internet posts a screenshot with a battery less than 50%, 5 people have to comment "charge your phone!"
#
aaronpk
I will be sure to inform you of any increase in the number of "charge your phone" comments I receive :D
#
aaronpk
articles are proving more difficult to import automatically because of embedded images
#
aaronpk
any posts that use Quill's data URI trick are fine. the problem is the articles with <img> tags that point to local files.
#
aaronpk
which is now also making me think about what is the best way to do this via micropub
#
aaronpk
(my import process is actually my old site making micropub requests to my new site)
#
aaronpk
which has the added benefit of making sure my site supports micropub for creating every kind of post i have!
#
aaronpk
my current struggle is how do I upload multiple images associated with a new blog post via micropub
#
GWG
aaronpk, what if you out the icons in the footer with the names for context?
#
aaronpk
GWG: maybe. I'm gonna deal with that kind of stuff later though, after I launch this.
#
GWG
aaronpk, I try to say things as they occur to me.
#
aaronpk
there's a semi-elegant solution to uploading multiple images via micropub, but it only works with the form-encoded version, not JSON
#
aaronpk
the other solution i'm thinking of places constraints on how the server can store the file, which I don't like
#
aaronpk
the html content of the article has an img tag with a relative URL to "cat.jpg" and there is also a file in the request called "cat.jpg"
#
aaronpk
i think i'm gonna go with that for now
#
kylewm
aaronpk: GWG: just <i title="Bookmark" class="fa fa-bookmark"></i> would solve that issue right?
#
GWG
Effectively.
#
GWG
But not on mobile.
#
aaronpk
why not on mobile?
#
aaronpk
i'm just not sure where I want to put the icon. it's already in the top right corner for those anyway.
#
GWG
Does tapping for the title work on mobile?
#
aaronpk
hm I just made a semi-drastic change and I hope it doesn't have unintended consequences
#
GWG
I never quite got touchscreen adaptation.
#
aaronpk
i realized in order for relative image links in posts to work, I need my post permalinks to have a trailing slash if there is no slug
#
aaronpk
but now i can attach multiple files in a micropub request and include a simple <img> tag with the uploaded filename! no extra processing required on the micropub endpoint end!

Is rel=permalink useful for anything currently? The w3 validator says it's not a registered rel keyword for HTML5.
#
gRegorLove
It's been in my HTML so long and I honestly don't remember why I put it there, heh.
#
aaronpk
no idea, is that different from rel=canonical?
#
gRegorLove
Looks like it's superseded by rel=bookmark http://microformats.org/wiki/existing-rel-values#WCLR
#
gRegorLove
Not quite rel-canonical. Can have multiple rel-bookmarks on a page; serves to indicate the permalink of the closest <article> or section the link is most closely associated with.
#
gRegorLove
I think I'll just drop rel-permalink. Don't see much use for either currently.
j12t joined the channel
#
aaronpk
nice. now when my micropub endpoint gets an <img> with a data: URI in it, it extracts the file and saves it to disk
#
gRegorLove
Nice. How comes the new site, aaronpk?
[kevinmarks] joined the channel
#
[kevinmarks]
Ah, neat. I do like the data uri pass through to silos though
#
[kevinmarks]
There's probably a size threshold where that makes sense, though I suppose http2 will make it less relevant

I haven't had the time to follow up on it, but from the discussions around this some people started discussing a new project in this direction in #letsauth
#
aaronpk
one-time login links via email?
#
gRegorLove
Though I might do it more like a "confirm your comment" email. First-time comments won't post until they click the link. A bit better UX.
#
aaronpk
i'm gonna have to switch indieauth.com to do that too
