Came across http://booklikes.com recently. Interesting blog-social-network thing around books. Looks like it functions similar to tumblr with username.booklikes.com but can hook your domain up to it too.

aaronpk: I'm getting an error authing with Quill; I suspect because Known's syndication targets are not URL-shaped
#
aaronpk
hmm i thought it checked for syndication targets later
#
aaronpk
also it doesn't care if they are urls
#
aaronpk
are you getting a specific error message?
#
kylewm
yeah, I'll put it in a gist
#
aaronpk
huh you're right. I thought it just passed it through unchanged if it wasn't a URL
#
kylewm
oh silly, I already fixed this on my local version!
#
KevinMarks
is this what was confusing ownyourgram?
#
kylewm
s/I already/I had already
#
kylewm
KevinMarks: most likely not, OwnYourGram doesn't concern itself with syndication targets
#
aaronpk
how do I get known to return a syndication target for me?
#
kylewm
aaronpk: you'd need to pull from git master and update the Twitter plugin with https://github.com/kylewm/KnownTwitter/tree/rearrange-user-auth
#
kylewm
sorry, it's not easy right now :P
#

#
aaronpk
i'm trying to use the "container" layout here: http://semantic-ui.com/examples/responsive.html
#
aaronpk
but it's not shrinking like in the example
#
KartikPrabhu
wow! so many !important things in there
#
tantek
interesting, just found something on my site with site:tantek.com and Yahoo, that Google couldn't find
#
aaronpk
semantic-ui is very !important
#
KartikPrabhu
aaronpk: your body has a min-wdith: 1049px
#
KartikPrabhu
that's why
#
KartikPrabhu
the body is not shrinking
#
aaronpk
wait where's that coming from
#
aaronpk
hm that's in semantic.css
#
KartikPrabhu
from semantic.min.css:11
#
KartikPrabhu
removing that prop in FF dev tools made it flexible
#
aaronpk
in their demo it's 320px
#
KartikPrabhu
also px! really
#
aaronpk
so how in the world did mine end up at 1049?
#
aaronpk
wait why are px bad
#
aaronpk
what happened
#
aaronpk
i've been out of touch with front-end dev for a loooong time
#
KartikPrabhu
hmm for min-width it might be ok to use px, I seem to use px too. For responsive breakpoint ems are better
#
aaronpk
i thought ems only made sense for text sizes
#
tantek
nah, px are scaled like everything else now
#
KartikPrabhu
oh! ok then nvmd
#
tantek
aaronpk, ems are a nice consistent way to do everything
#
KartikPrabhu
earlier px were not scaled by browser zooms
#
tantek
and then only set a px font-size at the root
#
tantek
KartikPrabhu: that's like 10+ years old!
#
tantek
px have been scaled for ages
#
tantek
aaronpk: better to not mix them though
#
KartikPrabhu
tantek: oh! hmm :P maybe I am out of date too
#
KartikPrabhu
anyway aaronpk your problem is the min-width
#
aaronpk
it does seem to behave much better without htat!
#
tantek
also, can I just say that FB sucks for searching your own posts? as in how?
#
aaronpk
i'm gonna re-download the compiled semantic.css and see if that fixes it
#
tantek
whoa "Activity Log" is back!
#
KartikPrabhu
was it gone?
#
tantek
yes it was gone for a while and redirected to just your profile
#
tantek
now you can find it at profileURL/allactivity
#
tantek
your own at least
#
tantek
and then *that* (your Activity Log) you can search
#
KartikPrabhu
i've always found FB menu to be too complicated
#
tantek

#

#

#
tantek

#
tantek
lol re: Twitter raising tweet limit
#
tantek
all that work put into careful POSSE to Twitter design
#
aaronpk
hmm with the downloaded semantic.css it includes the 320px min width. something about when I compiled it from source made it different.
#
aaronpk
also my colors are slightly different now
#
KartikPrabhu
maybe it was a bug in the version you downloaded
#
aaronpk
the one before i ran their gulp thingy which I didn't really understand. i guess you're only supposed to use that if you want to customize the core css
#
aaronpk
i want my old colors back tho
#
KartikPrabhu
can't have everything with these frameworks
#
aaronpk
oh snap. now I remember what happened.
#
aaronpk
I compiled it with the "github" theme which is where they make things look kind of like github
#

aah maybe that has min-width

I thought mixing px and em was OK - px for when you care about screen-like things, em for text
#
KartikPrabhu
KevinMarks: yes it is fine for that purpose
#
KevinMarks
'cos you shouldn't assume you get to set the text size for people
#
tantek
KevinMarks: setting good default text sizes is good design
#
cweiske
100% ?
#
KevinMarks
oh, agreed
#
tantek
of course people can zoom, but that does not negate the utility of setting good defaults
#
cweiske
browsers have a default text size, and I like to build up on that
#
cweiske
1em, 1.5em, 0.7em and so
#
KevinMarks
I mean assuming that you can set the text size in px and not have it overridden by the user is dubious
#
KartikPrabhu
set text size in px on root element if you'd like and the use ems inside the root for sizing
#
KartikPrabhu
maintains text size ratios and allows zooming
#
cweiske
there is also rem
#
cweiske
instead of em
#
tantek
KevinMarks: not dubious at all for typical mobile use-cases
#
tantek
dubious to think that it is common that the user overrides it
#
tantek
and you should obv be styling for mobile first, and then using media queries to style for non-mobile use-cases
#
tantek
this from KartikPrabhu is a reasonable general approach: "set text size in px on root element if you'd like and the use ems inside the root for sizing"
#
KevinMarks
hm, maybe you have better eyes than me
#
tantek
KevinMarks: there is a range of text sizes that various text-heavy sites/silos set on mobile. I try to use something in the middle.

#

#

#
KartikPrabhu
what is HSTS?
#
Loqi
HSTS is short for HTTP Strict Transport Security, an extension to HTTPS https://indiewebcamp.com/HSTS
#
cweiske
the firefox social API does not require a plugin: every website can register itself
#
cweiske
so for firefox you don't actually need to write plugins
#
petermolnar
about:config -> security.csp.enable -> false
#
petermolnar

Didn't realize Square Cash was already on /payments. Some duplication between the How and Services sections on there.

I have already, but good to check now, checking my current IndieMark :) Lots of things can still be done, and I'm looking to that a little later on...

GWG I've morphed your bridgy-publish plugin a little too much to ask for a pull request, but I have a recommendation: add a filter hook your 'save_post' function as $bridgy = apply_filters ('bridgy_publish_urls', $bridgy, $post_id);
#
petermolnar
with that silos can be triggered from other methods

hm. this articulates what I'm getting at with storycards and the like, but expicltly ignores microformats http://danielmall.com/articles/content-display-patterns/
#
KartikPrabhu
microformats can be thought of as a content-pattern

!tell cweiske: thanks for reporting. It was a glitch in the code. In any case the hfeed2atom form is causing my server to "freeze" for some reason, so I have disabled it until I fix the problem. Sorry about that. I am no good at running services

Loqi

KartikPrabhu: i also told him https://granary-demo.appspot.com/?input=html is an alternative, so no need to stress

yes, but the article explictly says "(for simplicity, I’ve omitted useful markup like microformats):"
#
KartikPrabhu
which is fair. readers who don't understand microformats would get needlessly confused about that extra stuff
#
KartikPrabhu
people who know microformats will get the point that microformats can be used in content patterns
#
KartikPrabhu
as in all writing, you sometimes omit some things so that the idea reaches a wider audience
#
KevinMarks
I know, but his g-item thingy is like a mutant misnamed microformat block
#
KartikPrabhu
he's just showing the patterns. I would use microformats for that too
