!tell tantek I'm catching up and reading that article from Ev. I sadly believe he's somewhat right, especially in terms of generic public. For the many, those platforms are enough to post their words, and from the user perspective, their recommendation system (coming from the disgusting way of intrusive data collection, but most don't care) , the way they could be searched (hashtags, graph-based ordering, etc.) for "what interests me"
#
petermolnar_
is way, way ahead of what the open web offers. To counter that, we'd need a wildly popular silo that is just and only a personalized recommendation system and nothing more, pointing to the articles on the web.

A birthday is the date when someone is born, however in the context of the indieweb, it is a feature displayed on some silos' user profiles that you can (or must) enter, and some prominently present to your friends on the month and day of your birthday, like Facebook's "BIRTHDAYS THIS WEEK" feature at the top of their events page https://indiewebcamp.com/birthday
