KevinMarks
why not SVG icons?
#
aaronpk
because sometimes you want to design a different icon depending on the number of pixels
#
aaronpk
to be able to specify different levels of detail
#
KevinMarks
but sometimes you don't
#
aaronpk
like a really thin line is likely to disappear when shrunk down to 16px
#
KevinMarks
what apple device has 16px icons?
#
aaronpk
the lock screen
#
aaronpk
they're probably 32px actually but it's retina so kinda 16px
#
KevinMarks
I'm old enough to remember making 8x8 icons by hand for flags of the works
#
aaronpk
i don't know the proper name for that... the pull-down thingy that has "Today" and "Notifications"
#
KevinMarks
but not being able to say SVG for everything above n px is daft
#
aaronpk
that would be a good compromise
#
KevinMarks
you can actually use hinted rendering for small sizes - snap to grid stuff
#
aaronpk
in svg?
#
KevinMarks
did that for fonts back when pixels were big
#
KevinMarks
you could in SVG
#
aaronpk
that would probably solve it
#
KevinMarks
you coudl even make the SVG use sub-pixel rendering if you still care
#
KevinMarks
whcih is better done by the driver than the designer, as you don't know which orientation

#

I know Twitter is a b* when you want to import @replies based on tweet; the only solution I've found so far was to pull in the mobile page and parse it; are there any, nicer ways to do that?

!tell petermolnar re finding twitter @-replies, yup, well known problem. sad that the API doesn't support it. :( best way seems to be to search for @username and then filter by in-reply-to field. more details: https://indiewebcamp.com/backfeed#Twitter , https://github.com/snarfed/activitystreams-unofficial/blob/master/twitter.py#L309

jonnybarnes
hey guys, so has brid.gy changed the way its twitter profile images are sent? realised in a webmention of a twitter loke recently that the URL of the profile image was something like twitter.com/username/profile_image
#
jonnybarnes
specifically twitter.com/username/profile_image?size=original
#
tantek
makes sense
#
jonnybarnes
it used to use twimg.com links
#
tantek
which would go stale when people changed their profile image
#
jonnybarnes
which has slightly screwed over my code for saving people's profile imeges, which was done using domains names
#
jonnybarnes
now my system has a profile image saved in twitter.com and it keeps getting over-written :/
KevinMarks_ joined the channel
#
jonnybarnes
by stale you mean just outdated, as oppose to turning into 404s
#
tantek
no, 404s
#
tantek
sounds like a good bug to fix :)
#
jonnybarnes
oh, I though they just went outdated *shrugs*
#
jonnybarnes
yeah, been porting over my code from Laravel 4 to Laravel 5, finally finished today
#
aaronpk
this is why i don't like frameworks
#
jonnybarnes
so now I can look at this twitter profile image thing
#
jonnybarnes
aaronpk: I can see why people don't like thme, though I feel I've learnt a lot from using a framework
#
Loqi
slack/snarfed: jonnybarbemnes: you had to special case <http://twimg.com|twimg.com> before, right?
#
Loqi
slack/snarfed: so hopefully just extend that logic to <http://twitter.com|twitter.com>
#
jonnybarnes
yup sanrfed
#

I think I may have found a bug with the IndieAuth php client
tilgovi joined the channel
#
jonnybarnes
if I set my token_endpoint to literally "/api/token" then it wasn't resolving correctly
#
jonnybarnes
hang on, lets get this right
#
aaronpk
oh is it not resolving relative URLs?
#
jonnybarnes
yeah, So if I had $tokenEndpoint = \IndieAuth\Client::discoverTokenEndpoint($me); // `/apit/token`
#
jonnybarnes
then Client::getAccessToken(...) would fail
#
jonnybarnes
it'd be nice if the client automatically added the base url
#
aaronpk
yeah I have a relative URL resolver in the mf2 parser now so that should be easy
#
aaronpk
feel free to open an issue so i don't forget
#
jonnybarnes
will do, for now I just cahnged my html to be an absolute url

#
jonnybarnes
hey snarfed, this should work right? if (parse_url($photo)['host'] != 'pbs.twimg.com' && parse_url($photo)['host'] != 'twitter.com') {}

it just had the twimg.com != before
#
Loqi
slack/snarfed: jonnybarnes: sounds right. I'd also add instagram, g+, and fb if you use them

whoa tantek your h-feed is *inside* your home page h-card?
#
aaronpk
way to throw off my h-feed consuming code
sharplefthander and KevinMarks_ joined the channel
#
tantek
aaronpk - my home page is me thus h-card
#
tantek
my posts h-feed is just one *piece* of my home page
#
aaronpk
there is no mention of that pattern on h-feed or h-entry or microformats.org
#
tantek
I believe barnabywalters also got caught on this
#
tantek
aaronpk - because AFAIK it's not a pattern - yet - just one instance - that seemed to make sense to me
#
tantek
since my home page is akin to my profile, more than just recent posts
#
aaronpk
there is also a slight mismatch between the instructions on "how to parse x" and the result of the microformats parser
#
aaronpk
it makes it very awkward
#
aaronpk
the language says things like "find the first h-feed" but the result of the mf2 parsing does not give all mf2 objects in order, it nests them
#
tantek
which instructions?
#
aaronpk
"let the posts in the feed be any h-entries found on the page" vs "Treat top level h-entry elements as items in the feed."
#
aaronpk
this is complicated enough that it's worth putting this into a library
