Are there any CMSs out there that have been built completely with indieweb in mind? I know WordPress is great and there are many plugins for indieweb (which I use myself). But I was wondering if there was an "indieweb CMS" as it were.
#
davidpeach
i just discovered the projects page on indieweb. seems to answer my question
#
ShaneHudson
There are a few, at various stages of development
#
ShaneHudson
what is known
#
ShaneHudson
what is p3k
#

It looks like we don't have a page for "p3k" yet. Would you like to create it? http://indiewebcamp.com/wiki/index.php?action=edit&title=p3k

Hey GWG
#

i was thinking of having a go at creating my own CMS as a learning thing.
#
GWG
pfefferle: Hello.
#
pfefferle
GWG I saw that you saw it ;)
#
ShaneHudson
davidpeach: We've all been there :) Some succeed (Tantek, Aaron and Jeremy for instance) but I just gave in and use Craft. Definitely a brilliant way to learn though
#
GWG
pfefferle: I still am advocating functions at the plugin level. Many things can be done at the theme level, but themes should be reserved for design elements.
#
davidpeach
yer. I mean, I love wordpress and the plugins that I am using are great and do what I need. But something inside me just cant help myself.
#
GWG
davidpeach: Good luck to you.
#
pfefferle

#
GWG
davidpeach: What was wrong with using %FULLTEXT% or %EXCERPT% for the SNAP share boxes?
paulfitz, eburcat and gr0k joined the channel
#
davidpeach
GWG: what it was, was for on mobile. So my default for articles etc is %TITLE% %EXCERPT%. but only on status update formats I wanted the content only. So to save trying to paste the content in to the share boxes for just those, I added that bit of JS to do it for me.

I have been slowly building my site using indieweb principles. My platform is WP, and I am looking to add a 'notes' type post. Any thoughts on where to look to get started?
#
davidpeach
seems to be okay for me so far. One thing Ive noticed though, sometimes when I post a note, bridgy fails to see the rel-syndication link. Only sometimes. odd
#
snarfed
davidpeach: send me an example, I can look into it
#
GWG
davidpeach: Switching to Bridgy Publish is a plan I've had on my list for a while.
#
GWG
snarfed: I'm convinced though that if there is a way for there to be a problem with Bridgy Publish...I'll find it
#
snarfed
GWG: of course, everything has bugs :P
#
snarfed
davidpeach: for syndication links to work, the post either needs to be on your home page or on an h-feed linked from it. I'm guessing that post isn't
#
snarfed
I'll add that to the faq
#
davidpeach
my header has the hfeed link that points to my notes url
#
davidpeach
snarfed: i use <link rel="feed" href="http://davidpeach.co.uk/notes/" type="text/html" /> in my header
#
GWG

oh wow, just got an email that my startssl client cert is going to expire in 2 weeks and that i need to go renew it. If I let it expire, then I have no way to sign in to startssl and I essentially lose my account.
#
aaronpk
that seems less than ideal
jtauber joined the channel
#
jonnybarnes
yeah but its not too difficult to create a new cert
#
aaronpk
but you can't get into the old account
#
aaronpk
I guess that doesn't really matter cause you can just make new certs on a new account... hmm
#
jonnybarnes
no, you make a new cert in your current avvount
#
jonnybarnes
just use the same email address
#
aaronpk
wait what? doesn't that mean anyone could take over my account?

from the email... "Failing to update your client certificate might result in the loss of your account."

#

from what I can remember, login as normal
#
jonnybarnes
then goto certificates wizard
#
aaronpk
right. but if your cert expires then you can't log in!
#
jonnybarnes
and then create a new S/MIME and Authentication Certificate
#
aaronpk
so you have to do it before your cert expires.
#
jonnybarnes
and then that new certificate is automatically associated with your account
#
aaronpk
that's what i'm saying
#
jonnybarnes
you need to do this before your old cert expires
#
aaronpk
yes I know. that's my point
#
aaronpk
seems like a fragile system if the only access to your account is a certificate that has an expiration date. there's no backup/recovery mechanism at all.

Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "rollup" yet. Would you like to create it? http://indiewebcamp.com/wiki/index.php?action=edit&title=rollup
#
butter
it's pretty clea you guys like microformats, and i like RDF. and you'll dismiss it in favor of something i see as more brittle/complex/less-flexible. we're probably never going to find a middle-ground
#
butter
i'm realy not interested in supporting all these ad-hoc socialize/twitter-clone/diaspora-related HTML glom-onns over making more robust generic POST/PUT handlers etc
#

butter
offering an alternative to mainframe (google/yahoo/fb/twitter) for typical tasks
#
kylewm
butter: some of us are particularly invested in one markup over another, I'd guess most are pragmatically using whichever lets us/them do what we/they want to do. if you want to debate microformats, #microformats
#
kylewm
would be more amenable
#
butter
yeah. MIME agnosticism is well built into HTTP/1.1
#
butter
ie, i'd like to add mf2 support to my tools, at least on ingestion-side
#

which is why i'll listen and watch and hopefluly add code

Oh, for the record I am using Firefox 29, if that is the problem with viewing the icon on the repost
#

kylewm: interesting. so that's a second ppd failure for him. arguably user error, but we should probably improve docs. (check your direct irc msgs for the other one.)

snarfed: kylewm left you a message 1 hour, 52 minutes ago: it looks like bridgy posse post discovery is failing for davidpeach because it's looking for facebook.com/100007946553014/... where he publishes rel-syndication links like /www.facebook.com/david.peach.1884/...

aaronpk: I actually don't see the Twitter bird!
#
snarfed
kylewm: although I thought we already normalize fb usernames to ids in syndication urls
#
aaronpk
KartikPrabhu: lol wtf
#
aaronpk
well i'm not actually too concerned about the twitter bird, cause it wouldn't be there if I reposted someone's non-twitter post
#
KartikPrabhu
yeah. I see the avatar for freemydataco but no superimposed Twitter bird
#
KartikPrabhu
but that is weird
#
aaronpk
what browser?
#
aaronpk
and do you see it if you turn it off and back on again? (refresh)

aaronpk: this is the latest Firefox. And it appears for one moment when I restart browser and then disappears!
#
aaronpk
that's bizarre
#
aaronpk
must be a css thing
#
KartikPrabhu
some sort of CSS reflow thing
#
KartikPrabhu
well that Twitter bird is not a big problem
#
ben_thatmustbeme
phew work finally starting to slow down again
#

Does anyone know if there are any copyright implications of cross-domain reposting?
#
ben_thatmustbeme
i can get back to my project of getting to work on my contacts manager code
#
joskar
Or is a note too small of a work to be "copyrightable"?
#
aaronpk
amused that this domain popped up after a quick search http://www.canyoucopyrightatweet.com
#
aaronpk
short answer: it's complicated
#
joskar
figured as much :)
#
aaronpk
short, more helpful answer: probably no, but there may be some instances of <140-char text that are protectable by copyright

davidpeach: sorry I was wrong. thought it was a facebook-only issue
#

davidpeach: for now, you should add u-url to your permalink links on http://davidpeach.co.uk/notes/ ... that way bridgy will fetch each permalink looking for the syndication url. in the future i'll fix it so that it doesn't have to fetch the permalink if the syndication url is available right there in the feed
#
davidpeach
okie doke thanks.

hmm, you can't Mute promoted tweets
#
aaronpk
interesting
#
aaronpk
instagram handles that well and lets you remove promoted posts, then asks you why. either "I don't like this post" or "I don't like this account"
