#
tantek
aaronpk - what - can't infer it from the location? ;)
#
tantek
so… is myopenid actually offline now?
#
aaronpk
there's nothing to infer! I created the event by choosing 11:30am, and it even sends "11:30am" in the title of the event, but the datetime value in the ics file attached is in UTC!!
#
tantek
did you put a location into the event?
#
aaronpk
shouldn't matter tho
#
aaronpk
the subject line of the email and the body of the email shows the local time
#
aaronpk
(the email that google calendar sends to invitees)
#
tantek
local to … what?
#
tantek
the server? your browser?
#
aaronpk
the time I typed in!
#
aaronpk
and explicitly set the timezone
#
tantek
I believe that's Google's way to subtly trying to teach you to always use UTC ;)
#
aaronpk
explicit start/end times in different timezones
#
Jeena
they seem to be just like Steve (Jobs), thy know what is best for you.
#
aaronpk
the resulting ics file shows just the UTC timestamps
#
aaronpk
so how is an invitee supposed to know what timezone the event occurs in?
#
aaronpk
ics even has explicit support for timezones, they're just not using it
#
tantek
the explicit timezone support in ICS kinda sucks
#
tantek
and, hey - do you know which if any ICS consumers support it? turns out - there are no public test suites of ICS.
#
tantek
hmm … ok, just signed into my myOpenID account
#
aaronpk
they probably forgot to unplug the server
#
tantek
oh interesting, they have some login logs: https://www.myopenid.com/activity

tantek: have you seen any good implementaitons of openid connect?
#
aaronpk
supposedly google uses it
#
aaronpk
"This document describes Google's underlying OAuth 2.0 implementation for authentication, which aligns with the OpenID Connect specification."
#
aaronpk
wow looks like even the openid folks couldn't agree on stuff. they have separate docs for Core, Discovery, Dynamic Registration, Session Management
#
aaronpk
all except the core are optional
#
tantek
aaronpk - um no
#
tantek
google has no incentive to make it not suck, on the contrary they have incentive to neglect it and focus on getting all users to use G+ identity/logins
#
tantek
and this came through loud and clear at last year's Google I/O
#
tantek
I kept asking questions about interop, federation, standards etc. during the Google+ identity related sessions, and it was all lipservice, except for supporting "rel=author"
#
aaronpk
it looks like they have done the bare minimum to comply with oauth 2.0 and openid just to say they are compliant
#
aaronpk
"Google's OAuth 2.0 authentication system supports the required features of the OpenID Connect Basic and Implicit flows."
#
aaronpk
also "Google+ Sign-In is built on the OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect protocols."
#
tantek
it's like the new "built on XML"
#
aaronpk
aahahahaha oh no
#
tantek
means nothing about interop. vocab. etc.
#
Loqi
hahahaha
#
aaronpk
it seems to me that nobody could agree, so they decided to agree on as little as possible and call it good and go their separate ways
#
aaronpk
and that is oauth 2.0 and openid connect

snarfed: does bridgy require a u-syndication link on a post before it'll start sending webmentions back?
#
snarfed
it doesn't parse original posts at all
#
snarfed
are you missing a webmention?
#
aaronpk
not sure the schedule of when it starts sending webmentions tho, might just need to keep waiting
#
aaronpk
that does seem like a potential hole that needs to be plugged tho. otherwise I could go make a FB post and link to one of your URLs at the bottom and you'll start getting my comments there
#
snarfed
FB polls every 5m, but she just signed her FB up for bridgy a bit ago, so it might be working through her stuff
#
snarfed
re the hole, yeah, that's actually somewhat of intentional
XgFgX joined the channel
#
snarfed
it's broader than strict original post discovery, but the benefit is that it sends discussion on "mention" posts like that as well as original posts
#
aaronpk
oh right hmm
#
snarfed
in practice, it only happens if the mentioner is also on bridgy, which is still pretty rare
#
snarfed
aaronpk, caseorganic: is the FB event not public? bridgy tries ignore anything that's not fully public
#
aaronpk
i think it's public
#
aaronpk
that's a thing?
#
aaronpk
i see it there
#
aaronpk
yeah it says it's public
#
snarfed
huh. i wonder why i don't see it
#
snarfed
heh, bridgy has about 1k responses in the queue to send
#
aaronpk
hah ok
#
snarfed
the event rsvps are probably in there. :P
#
snarfed
yup, looks like they're trickling in
#
aaronpk
wahoo!
#
aaronpk
heh i'm gonna have to start parsing invitations
#
aaronpk
cause they show up as replies right now
#
snarfed
heh. glad to be the nudge…? :P
#

so you have a copy of your repos at home?
#
pfenwick
cweiske: My build process requires it. Github won't run jekyll plugins, and I have *lots* of plugins. The site gets built locally, and then pushed to github. Plus anyone who has forked my website has a copy of it (even if it's somewhat out of date)
