if we're going to get really modern, "a small autonomous drone will be hovering outside your door in a few minutes. flash the following QR code to it for verification."
#
tantek
yes, one-time auth postcard delivery via drone. love it.
#
tantek
even better if you can outfit the drone with the tiny receipt printer itself.

aaronpk, finally found a decent article about the IG worm with more details: http://www.threattracksecurity.com/it-blog/instagram-smoothie-spam-serves-up-fake-bbc-sites/
#
tantek
plenty of actual attack URLs in that article to analyze
#
tantek
I'm assuming they've figured out a mobile-Safari-specific XSS hack that allows them to compromise a user who is already cookied into instagram.com on their browser, changing their bio (to add the link to spread), and email address (users have reported getting locked out when they hit the reset password link).

bret - I added a better overview to tie together the subsections to http://indiewebcamp.com/Why_web_sign-in#Why_not_email - hope that helps in any future discussions you might have with email identity advocates
#
tantek
that being said, please feel free to collect additional rationalizations you hear for using email for identity. let's collect/debunk them all.

aparently email verrification is a pain in the ass to: http://blog.mailgun.com/post/free-email-validation-api-for-web-forms/

thanks tantek ill check it out now

Loqi: how do you know people’s genders? REVEAL YOUR SECRETS
#
tommorris
should unignore Loqi
#
barnabywalters
wild, convoluted theory: irc nick -> personal url from wiki page -> .h-card .u-photo -> facial recognition gender estimation
#
tommorris
you can put gender in hCard I believe
#
barnabywalters
tommorris: I don’t think I’ve ever seen it in the wild
#
tommorris
I know tantek put lots of work into getting vCard to include sensible trans-inclusive sex and gender properties
#
tommorris
FOAF has similarly enlightened gender properties - a string with two blessed values of "male" and "female" but which you can put any other value you like in
#
tommorris
also, Reeder is awesome, but I'm so patiently waiting for the guy to sort out the desktop and iPad version
#
barnabywalters
tommorris: I’m in the same boat — I used the iPad and desktop versions all the time
#
bret
barnabywalters, there is something subtly off about the font you use below a certain text size when viewing your site in windows
#
bret
it looks fine on the averia site though
#
barnabywalters
bret: can you send a screenshot? I don’t have access to a windows machine at the moment

barnabywalters, sure thing :) http://i.imgur.com/YBsxcSY.png
#
bret
this is what the reference site looks like on windows. both shots from firefox http://i.imgur.com/tGmvhKF.png
#
barnabywalters
bret: thanks :) looks like it’s not not antialiasing very well. I should probably just turn it off for windows
#
bret
There also is that hack where you can use a subtle text shadow for simple aa, not sure what the drawback is though
#
bret
its a nice font though, I like it
#
barnabywalters
I’ve become a bit attached to it after initially loving the idea
#
barnabywalters
it has a pleasantly organic, eroded look which reminds me of early type
#
bret
looks like it came out of an old book or something
#
barnabywalters
bret: yeah, it reminds me of facsimilies like http://www.pbm.com/~lindahl/ravenscroft/brief/all.pdf

I have a wordpress and I'm wondering if there is a plugin that fetch all comments from fb/twitter/what ever... and create a wp comment on the article ?
#
Jihaisse
I'm using sharePress to POSSE
#
barnabywalters
Jihaisse: not that I know of — if you find one please add it to http://indiewebcamp.com/backfeed
#
Jihaisse
barnabywalters: I don't find one yet... :(
#
Jihaisse
I thought that webmention was doing that, but, no... ?
#
barnabywalters
Jihaisse: you should also look at https://github.com/pfefferle/wordpress-webmention for getting webmention comments working
#
barnabywalters
indieweb comments allow individual indie sites to exchange comments
#
barnabywalters
what you described (pulling comments in from silos) is social back-compatibility (like POSSE)
#

is anyone doing anything with relationship status markup on their own site
#
shaners
i know tantek was exploring some time ago

but i don't know whatever came of it
#
hadleybeeman
Shaners: XFN has values for the rel= attribute... Is that what you were thinking of?
#
shaners
hadleybeeman: yeah, xfn's rel-sweethear that covers part of it.
#
shaners
but there's also the common idiom of "Relationship status: single/divorced/in a relationship/it's complicated/etc"
#
shaners
that's the part i'm curious about
#
hadleybeeman
Facebook-style? :) I don't know if anyone is working on that. I'd be keen to hear.
#
shaners
yeah. fb/dating site/etc style.
#
hadleybeeman
Right. I can see how it'd be useful. I think tommorris was working on an ontology for Wikipedia... Not sure how mature that is now?
#
shaners
hadleybeeman: i'm thinking something like this:
#
shaners
"<h-card.p-name rel-me>Shane</h-card> is <p-relationship-status>in a relationship</p-relationship-status> with <h-card.p-name rel-sweetheart>Anneke</h-card>"
