aaronpk: do you use weechat's smart filter?
#
aaronpk
not effectively
#
aaronpk
i need some serious weechat help
#
pdurbin
aaronpk: me too. like me do you suffer from this? WeeChat - Tasks: task #12499, filter mode changes after joins... [Savannah] - http://savannah.nongnu.org/task/?12499
#
pdurbin
I found this: "When you see a mode change it's not "MODE" command received but a numeric command (for example 324 for channel modes). So you may have to ignore many numeric commands to ignore all modes." -- http://forums.flashtux.org/viewtopic.php?p=106&sid=62c78f547fb166200ca839a0d08d96d4#p106
#
aaronpk
all I want is to be able to un-set a hilight word in a specific channel
#
pdurbin
hmm. I don't have that problem
#
pdurbin
aaronpk: what about long links? are they clickable for you in weechat?
#
pdurbin
"[urlgrab.py] has one obvious limitation: it doesn’t work well if you’re running weechat on a remote host" -- http://blog.lnx.cx/2012/08/14/weechat/
#
aaronpk
no, not at all clickable
#
pdurbin
(I run weechat on a remote host)
#
aaronpk
yea I run it on a remote host too
#
pdurbin
it's very frustrating. I'm almost ready to go back to irssi
#
aaronpk
if you can figure out hwo to get nicks in the sidebar, I may also switch
#
pdurbin
the biggest advantage of weechat for me is that the input bar grows to a second line when it needs to
#
aaronpk
really? i think mine just scrolls sideways
#
pdurbin
irssi scrolls sideways. weechat grows if you do /set weechat.bar.input.size 0
#
pdurbin
which is awesome
#
aaronpk
ok i'll try it :)
#
aaronpk
ah much better!
#
pdurbin
see? :)
#
pdurbin
now if only I could click long links and get rid of the MODE noise :(
#
aaronpk
what mode noise?
#
aaronpk
i either just don't click long links, or if I really want to, I copy and paste
#
aaronpk
with jumpcut (multiple clipboard) it's not too bad
#
pdurbin
I see stuff like "Mode #chan [+o Draken] by Q" all the time in certain channels, as described in http://savannah.nongnu.org/task/?12499
#
aaronpk
I see that if someone gets ops
#
aaronpk
but I don't have many channels that happens in
#
pdurbin
aaronpk: exactly. in the common case here on freenode, ChanServ is sitting in a channel all the time and when the founder joined and gets auto-op'ed, I see what I'm calling the MODE noise
#
pdurbin
when the founder joins* I mean
#
aaronpk
I just never join this channel cause i'm always in it :)
#
aaronpk
i guess seeing tantek's +o doesn't really bother me
#
aaronpk
i hide all join/parts so that's all I see occasionally
#
pdurbin
right, I hide all join/parts with the weechat smart filter. for most things it works quite well
#
aaronpk
i guess I don't mind still knowing when tantek joins
#
pdurbin
aaronpk: I'm not sure I understand your hilight problem
#
aaronpk
i have a highlight set on "aaronpk" of course. but there are specific channels (buffers) that I don't want that highlight to exist on
#
pdurbin
oh. ok. I'm just using whatever the default is. my nick gets hilighted
#
aaronpk
yea, I don't want it to be hilighted in a specific channel. it's my log debugging channel for geoloqi
#
aaronpk
so any time something happens on my geoloqi account I get highlighted and then weechat also sends me a push notification :) so it gets a bit chatty
#
pdurbin
yeah, I'm all about reducing distractions from IRC
#
pdurbin
I had this down pretty well in irssi. but man I like the input bar that grows with weechat
#
aaronpk
at this point it's pretty much my primary communications channel and "command center", so I do actually want to know if someone is trying to get a hold of me here
#
pdurbin
right. me too
#
pdurbin
I mean, I might be interested in some kind of "next generation" IRC. a new RFC or something. but it's good enough for now. and better than many alternatives
#
pdurbin
hmm, it's worse that I thought. I also get noise in channels where ChanServ auto-voices anyone who enters :(

#
pdurbin
ah ha! I think I found the answer at http://inhies.com/weechat_my_new_favorite_irc_client/ (which is currently down but it's in Google's cache) ... /set weechat.look.buffer_notify_default message ... this changes it from the default of "all" to "message" so I don't see when people join but I'm notified if someone starts talking. \o/

#
pdurbin
aaronpk: I don't think jumpcut will help me with long links being unclickable in weechat
#
pdurbin
for one thing, I'm on linux :)
#
pdurbin
in practice, I make my window bigger and that usually makes it big enough to click the long link
#
pdurbin
if I really want the link, copy it and futz with it until I have it all one one line

@geo_gs
@New_Dork Great! I've been reading about this #indieweb idea and throught I would start trying to set something like that up. How are you?

So I'm trying to make a small edit to http://indiewebcamp.com/IRC but the website doesn't let me log in – keeps saying "You have not specified a valid username." Thoughts?
#
pdurbin
grawity: the wiki login should say "Sign in with your domain"
#
grawity
It does say that...
#
grawity
...wait, you don't mean it's required to be a bare domain, do you?
#
pdurbin
I had to follow https://indieauth.com/setup to log in
#
grawity
Oh, it actually accepts a bare domain
#
grawity
except that's not where my website is... and I thought I had it set up correctly, since it was already accepted by two other sites
erikmaarten joined the channel
#
pdurbin
that wiki is the only indieauth-enabled site I'm using so far
#
grawity
I tried the example login at indieauth.com, and http://aaronparecki.com/articles/2013/05/18/1/stop-reinventing-meta-tags (found the link in the wiki), and both accepted the login
#
grawity
Looks like the wiki insists on http://example.com/ and my website is http://example.com/~grawity/ :(
#
pdurbin
oh. bummer
erikmaarten, hmans and scor joined the channel
#
grawity
so in that case... where is the right place to post a bug report, or something similar, for the wiki?

at least i think it was your article?
