also I tried the argument that "…" communicates when to click, but that didn't fly (because no one else follows that publishing convention for when to click a link and when to ignore it as a permashortlink)

oh I think I remember this conversation
#
tantek
exactly, and now that we're repeating it, it deserves to be documented somewhere more discoverable
#
tantek
huh, another advantage of hosting your own content, you can fix links when they break

aaronpk
good point
#

needs to be added to /why

as a positive

digs through 2010 archives to go fix a link
#

unlike say, j.mp
#
tantek
finally has an example of a post with both a j.mp shortlink and the longurl where I can fix the longurl but not the broken j.mp
#

huh, this might the first place I described POSSE on the web: http://www.monkinetic.com/2010/05/26/tantek-celik-diso-20-brass-tacks

.@t But making a carbon copy of your every digital fart and linking said fart to said copy to prove a point is neurotic in the extreme.

whenever I go to tommorris's site to find particular post permalink to cite, I can't help but catchup reading his notes and LOL at many.
#

correction: tommorris is killing it the past few days
#
tantek
tommorris - where do I find your self-hosted @-replies?
#
tantek
e.g. what's the tommorris.org URL for this tweet: https://twitter.com/tommorris/status/306890969423437824 ? #ironic
#
@tommorris
@tigerchops The canonical version is on my site. Twitter is just syndication. See http://t.co/cZuTFr1g7W
#
tantek
or is Twitter the only copy of that?
#
tantek
as long as you're still posting *some* content (even just @-replies) *only* to Twitter (and not your own site), you're not (yet) treating Twitter as "just syndication" :P
#
tantek
!tell barnabywalters - can you show us how it's done? re: http://indiewebcamp.com/irc/2013-02-27#t1362013991 perhaps demonstrate by @-replying to https://twitter.com/tommorris/status/306890969423437824 re: Tom's assertion that "Twitter is just syndication." ;)

last night was one of those ones where I kept having to get up to write down ideas — specifically, ones about taking emergent patterns in the flexibly-tagged notes I’m producing and making those patterns into discrete resources
#
barnabywalters
something which other tag-implementing services are terrible at
#
barnabywalters
for example, if I want to maintain a list of bookmarks/links to do with hurdy gurdies, do I do it in a wiki page or with notes tagged #gurdy #bookmark
#
barnabywalters
and if I don’t intend to do this but end up doing so, how do I consolidate those notes into a resource of their own?
#
barnabywalters
tags are adequate for findability but as a tagging schema/IA is highly personal and ever-changing, they’re not much use for this sort of thing
#
barnabywalters
i.e. the way I use tags: I start out by not knowing how I want to categorise stuff, I tag it flexibly, I start seeing patterns after a while — the problem is, no-one else knows these patterns
#
barnabywalters
so I need a way of solidifying the *patterns*, whilst still flexibly producing the *content*
#
tantek
as long as it works for you, for your findability, that's fine
#
tantek
I end up clustering stuff in personal wiki pages too
#
barnabywalters
but it’s not just findability — I want to be able to act upon these patterns (e.g. visualisations), and share them publically
#
barnabywalters
anyway, I have some ideas which I’m going to implement and see how well they work. Just thought I’d air my thinkings here in case anyone else has similar ideas/problems

does this affect indieauth at all through Google+?
#
aaronpk
heh...let's find out
#
aaronpk
i can't imagine they'd make a non-backwards-compatible change though
#
aaronpk
still works fine as is
#
aaronpk
i didn't see any of the new stuff
#
aaronpk
(but i had already authorized the app of course)
#
tantek
great!
#
tommorris
has worked out the slow posting issue on his site.
#
tantek
tommorris - how about posting @-replies on your own site that are able to link-up their twitter copy to the tweet that they're in response to? e.g. as Barnaby has done with: http://waterpigs.co.uk/notes/1027/
#
tommorris
yep, that's next on the debugging list
#
tommorris
having a slow osting process discourages use, obvs.
