Hey all! Finally got around to launching my new site (http://sandeep.io) using my indieweb personal publishing webapp (https://github.com/converspace/converspace/)
#
sandeepshetty
I have till about 10 posts before I need to implement permalink :) and I was hoping to get feedback (pros/cons) from you'll on which way to go: slugs based on post_id OR post_datetime () OR post_title?

Woot! The various modules of my #indieweb site all now have upwards of 90% test coverage #web #dev #php (http://waterpigs.co.uk/notes/532)

congrats sandeepshetty and barnabywalters on your indieweb progress! that's great to hear.

sandeepshetty - permalink URL design is a good topic for discussion (id vs datetime vs title vs slugs)
#
tantek
I think we have some discussion on the wiki about it - will have to go check

tantek - searched the wiki but didn't find anything relevant...
#
barnabywalters
is rethinking the value of having a separate /activity collection
#
barnabywalters
especially as I’m just using notes for anything which isn’t an article
#
barnabywalters
the only real use-case I had for having activity separate to 'objects' was making edit histories for articles
#
aaronpk
I was going to use my "/notes" path for everything not an article
#
tantek
URL design is definitely important, and there are varying opinions depending on the developer/designer :)
#
aaronpk
has an upcoming URL design post
#
barnabywalters
tantek: that’s putting it mildy :) But this is more of an architectural decision than a URL one
#
barnabywalters
e.g. questioning the value of maintaining lists of things I’ve made, *and* lists of the verbs which went into making them
#
barnabywalters
aaronpk: always good to see more URL design posts! I get the impression it’s not something which is talked about enough
#
barnabywalters
decided to go with ditching activity and instead attaching edit histories directly to articles, where they belong

@zakkain
Considering moving away from @gimmebar to something else because the provided RSS is link-only, no imgs to scrape (with @ifttt) #ownYourData
#
tantek
barnabywalters - sounds like a good decision
#
tantek
btw in other silo news: looks like Instagram is slowly rolling out profile pages for users
#
barnabywalters
tantek: so no need for gramstagram ;)
#
tantek
mine "will be available soon" apparently: http://instagram.com/tantek/
#
barnabywalters
ooh, they’re rather nice
#
tantek
someone should do gangamstagram
#
barnabywalters
tantek: +∞
#
barnabywalters
hm, I’m getting a slight problem where the images aren’t loading
#
barnabywalters
the header looks lovely, but the rest are just blank grey squares :/
#
barnabywalters
same with the profile pic
tilgovi joined the channel
#
tantek
yeah I think they announced it at a conference or something and it's getting a bit of demand ;)
#
tantek
feel free to "Like" ;)
#
aaronpk
"The page you requested was not found."
#
barnabywalters
wow, I haven’t “liked” anything on fb for ages
#
barnabywalters
yep, I’m getting the error too
#
tantek
ah ok - private post then
#
tantek
sorry - I can never tell with FB posts what's public and what's private
#
tantek
so I just treat everything I post there as public
#
tantek
ooh ooh!
#
tantek
"thx for the suggestion--will get rolled out with next push"
#
barnabywalters
wow! awesome
#
aaronpk
oh nice
#
barnabywalters
so is that for instagram only, or for facebook in general (would be AWESOME)
#
tantek
next I'll be asking for hCard and h-card ;)
#
barnabywalters
well that’s still pretty great
#
tantek
does IG have Oauth?
#
tantek
aaronpk - perhaps we'll be able to add IG to IndieAuth?
#
tantek
the auto-rotating header image grid is brilliant
#
tantek
no need to pick one big header image
#
tantek
just let their algorithms do the picking for you
#
tantek
your header looks as pretty as the photos you take
#
barnabywalters
tantek: it’s making me want to implement that with my openphoto API
#
barnabywalters
hm… perhaps automatically prefer photos tagged with the tags of notes shown on my homepage…
#
tantek
yeah this is a nice clean photo grid
#
tantek
profile page
#
tantek
hmm - minor "flaw" - not responsive/adaptive
#
tantek
but then again, neither is' flickr's "/photos/tantek" or "/people/tantek" pages either.
#
tantek
have to admit I prefer *some* minor visible (not just on hover) annotation of activity happening on photos (faves/likes, comments)
#
tantek
e.g. like Flickr does it
#
tantek
wow Wikipedia is a mess when it comes to understanding feeds, feed readers vs. aggregators etc.
#
tantek
they redirect Feedreader (in various forms) to News Aggregator - which is a far cry from meaning the same thing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feedreader
#
tantek
what a cluster. based on the Talk page I'm not even going to bother trying to fix it. tommorris - any suggestions? This feels like one of those cases where it makes more sense to give up on Wikipedia and wiki the subject elsewhere (like on indiewebcamp.com)
#
tommorris
tantek: I'll add it to my todo list. I'm a bit busy with a little election. ;-)
#
tantek
interesting, I get 22M+ results for feedreader and only 15M+ for "feed reader" (on Google)
#
tantek
Bing has only 437k for feedreader, and more, 1340k for "feed reader"
#
tantek
hmm looks like Feedreader (no space) is a specific product too (how original). whereas "Feed reader" seems to always be used in a generic fashion. with space it is.
